How long does Earlobe Repair take?
In most cases, a custom earlobe repair will take about an hour and is performed in the office using local anesthesia. While you relax in a comfortable treatment chair, Dr. Givens will carefully restructure your earlobes, after which you can return home. Your newly reshaped earlobes will be protected with a surgical dressing once repair is complete. Dr. Givens will see you for a post-operative visit in one week following your earlobe repair to remove all sutures and ensure appropriate healing.
Is the recovery after Earlobe Repair painful?
The recovery is not particularly painful, and if you have discomfort, you can take over-the-counter pain medication. You should protect your ears from impact while the sutures are in place during healing. You will be provided with aftercare instructions and should feel ready to return to work the very next day.
Can I re-pierce my earlobes after repair?
Dr. Givens advises her patients to wait three months prior to re-piercing near a repaired site to allow for an adequate amount of strength to return. You should never pierce through the healed incision line as this is the weakest area of your newly shaped earlobes. It is important to both understand and remember that the area of repair will only achieve a maximum strength of 80% compared to its pre-injured state.
