Dramatically Improve Scar Visibility

Scar formation is a normal part of the healing process after injury. The appearance of a mature scar is variable and based on several factors including age, genetics, skin type, depth and size of the injury, location of the injury, and repair technique. Dr. Givens scar revision in Austin improves scar visibility and restores functionality if impaired.

Dr. Victoria Givens

The Ideal Candidate for Scar Revision

Dr. Givens offers both surgical procedures and non-surgical therapies for scar improvement. Indications for a revision treatment include scars that are widened, raised, discolored, and/or tethered. However, the repair method and degree of improvement depend on the location, depth, size, and maturity of the scar. Ideal candidates are those with mature scars (scars older than 6 months) who do not smoke and can avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process.

Scar Revision Techniques with Dr. Givens

Traditional Procedures

Both traditional non-surgical therapy and surgical treatments are offered for significant improvement in scar visibility including steroid and filler injections, microneedling, exosome facial repair, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and direct excision with tissue rearrangement. Procedures are often performed in combination or in a step-wise fashion for optimal results.

XO Infusion Scar Repair

Exosomes are stem cell derived vesicles that work by cell signaling to direct the body’s response to inflammation, injury, and regenerative healing. This cutting-edge treatment, designed by Dr. Givens, utilizes exosomes to promote cellular regeneration, boost collagen production, improve skin quality, and dramatically reduce scar visibility due to trauma, acne, and poor wound healing.

About Dr. Givens

Why Is A Mature Scar Required Prior To A Scar Revision Procedure?

A mature scar is a scar that has been present for at least six months. Studies have shown that the first six months after injury and skin repair is critical for wound healing. Most patients will see significant changes and improvements in the overall appearance of scarring during this time period. Dr. Givens will not perform any surgical procedures on a scar that has not reached full maturity (less than six months in age). In fact, she may even request that you wait an entire year prior to surgical intervention if her assessment shows that the current scar will continue to improve.

Are Non-surgical Treatments An Option While Awaiting Scar Maturity?

While awaiting scar maturity, there are several non-invasive treatments that can be considered including but not limited to serial steroid injection, silicone-based scar cream application, manual massage, avoidance of direct sun exposure, customized skin care, microneedling, PRP facial repair, exosome facial repair, and dermal filler injection. While many of these treatments can be used in combination, you should seek consultation with Dr. Givens first to determine which treatments are ideal for your body and when they should be performed.

Can I Remove A Scar Completely With A Scar Revision Procedure?

Dr. Givens has garnered a reputation for achieving results that surpass expectation. Her goal of a scar revision in Austin is to reduce scar visibility and improve functionality—NOT “make the scar invisible” or “remove the scar completely”. Patience is key during the healing period. And, Dr. Givens will remind you during each post-treatment visit that it takes every single day of an entire year for the height, width, and color of the scar to mature to its final resting state.
